MC Oct/12 - Raven - Something Wicked

ID: MC Oct/12 - Raven - Something Wicked
So over on gg designs blog, this month's challenge is to make a halloween type card but not using any of the traditional icons... no spiders/webs, no witches or ghosts, mummies or graveyards/stones, no pumpkins/Jack-o-Lanterns - oh boy, that's not easy. We are allowed to use traditional halloween colors though. So got my thinking cap on... and just bought a new die from Spellbinders yesterday - one of the expandable dies "Basic Lattice", and then I was also playing with rusting, so decided to make a rusted looking latice work, figuring that has a feeling of halloween, and then so do ravens, and keys etc... a little Goth in there. And this is the results. Not sure what I'll put on the inside, but I think it might be a good one for a Thinking of You to a friend.

So as I said, I die cut the basic lattice, painted and pounced with acrylic paints (copper, aqua & bronze), then sponged a bit of Distress Black Soot. Adhered it to a light aqua green cardstock.

Card is white side folded 5"x 7", sponged around the edges with the Black Soot, then above layers adhered to it.

Stamped the raven (Quietfire Design) with versafine Black Onyx on white cardstock and embossed with black embossing powder, then cut around the image.

Die cut the key (Sizzix Tim's "Keys & Keyholes") from white cardstock, applied direct to paper the Black Soot, embossed with Rustique Antique Iron, then dropped in some Rustique Tin Can. Adhered the raven and key together, trimming of the overlap and then adhering to card, adding a black rhinestone eye (which you can't really see...).

Stamped the sentiment (Quietfire Design) on white cardstock, embossed with black embossing powder, die cut with another of my newest dies (Spellbinders Decorative Elements "Decorative Labels Eight"),  sponged Distress "Evergreen Bough" around the edges., adhered to card with foam 3D squares.

Wrote my little sentiment with a funky monoline using a Zig Writer on white cardstock and just cut it out with a little arrow head. Adhered to card and added a couple black rhinestones.

Cut out a bunch of oak leaves with my electronic cutter - these were real oak leaves I scanned... cut out from some copper painted cardstock from my stash. I then sprayed with Dylusions and pounced some acrylic yellow and spattered with Sumi Ink. Adhered to card with Golden's extra heavy gel medium to give them a bit of lift and floating on air feeling.

Just click on card image if you want to see a larger version.
