MC Aug/13 - Quill Holly - Xmas is the Day

Love this technique of creating a painted look with quill strips. It's tedious, but so worth the effort.

This is a side fold 4.25"w x 5"h white card.

I'm using one of the newest Xmas stamps from Quietfire Design

I die cut one of the leaves from Tim's "Holly Branch" from mat board to use as a shape to create my outline. The cut and pasted various greens and red strips. Most are from my hand decorated paper that I had cut into strips a while back.

I stamped the poinsettia flower (Local King Rubber) using Distress "Antique Linen" and a touch  "Festive Berry". I  wanted a subdued image.

Stamped the quote on white cardstock and die cut with Spellbinders Scalloped Oval set. Sponged some of the red around the edges. Die cut a second scalloped oval and used it as a stencil to outline the shape using a red Zig Writer.

As a final touch, used Rangers white enamel accents to create faux stitching around the edge.

And it fits for these challenges:
Stamps Fun Creativity  #162 sewing
Divas By Design  #96 favorite color combo (Love greens & red - almost, my whole house are those colors...)
Penny's Challenges  #138 stitching
Christmas Stampin  #27 Xmas flower
