MC Nov/14 - Merry Xmas Tree - It's Beginning to Look

I came across a calligraphic xmas tree that I really liked and decided to try to create it... I used a 1.5mm parallel pen and Sumi ink - I would have used a large pen nib... but my other pens seemed to be dried up, so just grabbed whichever worked... I guess I should do a bit of cleaning and filling up. sigh!!

I changed a couple letters and made it narrower, but basically it's very similar. I then scanned it and printed it out on 110# white cardstock. I hate the way my printer prints which is why I hate doing digis... so went over each letter with my pen to get rid of those little dots and missed ink areas... Then I decorated.

On this one (I made 2 smaller versions coming soon...) I used an HB pencil and paper stump to add shading. Sponged around the edges with a dirty red sponge. Used a Quickie glue pen to make the glittered ball ornaments adding Stickles "Star Dust" glitter and then a Pilot G-Tec red pen.

Adhered it to a red textured cardstock and then zig-zag stitched around the edges. Punched a hole and added a silver brad star then adhered it to my side folded card front (5"w x 7"h).

On the inside: embossed the design onto a separate piece of white cardstock using Cuttlebug "Lace Tree". Note: I cut the embossing folder apart so that I could angle it here and there, then used my trusty hard rubber mallet to make the impression. Sponged the red and then some brown all over. Adhered to inside of card.

Stamped the quote (Quietfire Design - It's Beginning to Look..." 4pce set) using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed. Stamped the Santa ornament (Flourishes) using the black and colored with Prisma colored pencils. Added a narrow red ribbon as a hanger. As a final touch added the lace trim on the left edge making it more vintage type card.

Oh, very nice, Yogi! Brilliant use of the embossing folder, too. Scary to cut it apart, but you got a lot of mileage out of it that way.

I like both but esp the first, looks almost 3d/made of ribbon and reminds me of arabic writing.

That is some hardcore embossing going on, breaking out the rubber mallet. It looks great though, love the sponging. Thanks for joining us at Perfectly Rustics.
