RW - Uncial Class - More - Sept 2025

I found more images I did during the Uncial class I took with Renate Worthington thru our Guild. Also the booklet I created after the class to hold the artwork and hand out pages.

Carved some rubber stamps (ABC) and doodled the "Y" and the reverse of the "Brilliant" iece

RW_ Uncial Class - Sept 27 & 28, 2025

Took an Uncial class (Sept 27 & 28, 2025) with Renate Worthington thru our Guild and enjoyed it thoroughly.
We did lots of techniques.

PS: as you can see from the bottom right image the word is a little weird... It's my inevitable mistake... I put the "R' in front of the "T" but continued with my word and still laugh...

Letters As Art - Lorraine Douglas - Day 1

I'm taking a 2 day class with Lorraine Douglas (a BVCG Guild Member from BC) creating art with letters.

The top piece: BRIM - the letters outlined with a Unibal Gold gel pen and painted with all the colors of blue in one of my palettes. (Holbien - Peacock Blue, W/N - Cobalt Blue, Manganese Blue & Winsor Blue (red), Grumbacher - Cobalt Blue)

The middle 2: OKRA, ACED - the one on the left with Derwent Inktense w/c pencils and Bleed Proof White.
The one on the right done with a Zig Writer and Derwent regular watercolor pencils.

The bottom one: PENCIL - all done with an Caran d'Ache HB pencil and added shading with paper stump.

Polychromo's - Glass Vase

I took this glass vase colored pencil class at  Kensington Art Supply here in Calgary taught by Joel Matthew Warkentin. I really enjoyed it.
I've had a full set box of Polychromo's I bought in 2017 and never used... They're a nice pencil... I just read up on them and they're break-resistant, water-resistant, smudgeproof

Size: 4"w x 5.5"h
On Fabriano Black Black paper using Polychromo colored pencils (white 101, ivory 103, warm grey 270, brown ochre 182). As a final touch added a bit of Bleed Proof white ink using a pointed nib to the strongest highlights.

No Sew - Slip Knot Booklets - Geli Print

I taught a No Sew Slip Knot Booklet over at Paper Pastimes on Friday to several ladies. We had a wonderful time.

I had created a bunch of Geli print cardstock pieces which I used to demonstrate the techniques.

No Sew - Tab Booklet - Miss You

So I was asked to teach a class with this structure (Oct 26, 2022 at Paper Pastimes). It was eons ago that I had made and taught it (I think at least 15 years)... I said sure. I looked at the one the lady had to jog my memory. Came home and made this one. I altered it from the one I was shown by adding a hidden page and a pocket. I'm pleased. BIG GRIN

Slip Knot Booklet - Believe You Can - Page Artwork.

As I mentioned I'll be teaching a bookbinding class at "The Paper And Ink Boutique" here in Calgary in the afternoon of August 17. Thought I'd create some artwork on heavy watercolor paper to create my pages... This will get chopped up into 8 pages of 5"w x 7"h

I still need to do the doodling and add text to the pages... More to come...

Pencil To Paper & Illumination Triptych ATC's

Further to the class I took on the weekend with Ann Purdy "Pencil To Paper" I had created a "J" that was too large for an ATC - sigh, so that one became a greeting card which you'll see in another post...

So then I created the "O" the right size...

I also caught part of Cheryl Tefft's Illumination ZOOM class held by the Edmonton Calligraphy Society - it was held during my in person class... so couldn't really catch it till I got home and watched the last hour. So decided to combine the 2 techniques. I really like the results of this set of triptychs.

Pencil to Paper with Ann Purdy - Day 1

It was a fabulous class taught by Ann Purdy. She shared lots of techniques. I was working furiously... BIG GRIN

Our class was at Kensington Art Supply here in Calgary, so I ended up doing a bunch of shopping as well. sigh!! But I got some fabulous ink from Atraments their Pearlescent inks mixed with gold, silver or copper. They are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. I'm dying to play with them.

Fun & Funky with Julie Wildman - Day 1

Fun & Funky with Julie Wildman day 1. So far so good...

1st day was introductory and using a basic shape to create a fun alphabet. I was doodling while listening and this is what I created. I'm using a basic rectangle shape and all the letters fit within that shape (well almost... but I know my error points so will correct when using them). I've incorporated a couple variations, one with thick/thin strokes and one with diamond accents.

Using a 6.0 parallel pen and Sumi ink on Genoa bond paper and a 1" letter height. A few of the letters started getting a bit oversize... but I wasn't doing the exemplar all over again. I know my mistakes so will correct when using them...

The quotes below were done on 110# Staples white cardstock. Parallel pens and Sumi ink. Scanned and then printed out and colored or added gel pen details.

Paul Antonio - Copperplate & Flourishing

I took a 4 day workshop this past weekend with Paul Antonio. Eye opening... He definitely does fabulous work. Since we did a lot of pencil work, we didn't get too much time to do ink work - sigh!!.

The top piece has some of Paul's flourishing and under it I tried to emulate him...
