Diamond Easel Cards Merry Christmas and Noel

One of the gals from our Crafty Dozen was demoing a diamond easel card... not sure if that's the official name for this card but the best one I could come up with. It's fun to make. Not sure what the  actual dimensions were from her card, but these are the ones that worked for me. to see more details for the instructions, click on any image. Enjoy

The larger card is not created as a square so it takes a bunch of calculations to get the pieces the right size... The smaller card is easy. BIG GRIN

 

Oct/19 - Star Booklet - Autumn Joy - I Got A Friend

Shadow Layer for a die cut

There have been some misconceptions on how I create my shadow layer for "An A Way With Words" die cuts. So I thought I'd try to clarify how I do them.

You'll notice I have 3 die images. A: is the easiest to create a shadow layer. B: is a bit more tedious but at least has some open inner areas and C: takes more finesse... BUT all are doable.

The instructions use the die cut contour right side up which means at the end you'll need to erase your pencil lines. Sometimes I forget which way I do them but usually I work on the wrong side of the die cut contour so I don't have to erase my pencil lines. BIG GRIN

I tape down my die so it doesn't move, then slide my X-acto blade along the metal edge. Really easy if you have a very sharp blade. When I get to where there is tape, I'll hold my die and move the tape to a new location and continue cutting.

I'll use all the tools in my arsenal - like hole punches to get to some of the really small areas.

I hope this clarifies what I do. I hope to make a video of this technique in the near future.

QuietfireDesign Die Cut Storage System

Hi all, thought I let you get a peak at the way I store my Quietfire Design/Elizabeth Craft Designs die cuts...

Whenever I'm not in a very creative mood, I'll take out my dies and cut from any scraps laying around or from one of my scrap bins. I then put them into my black binder shown above. They're inserted into ATC plastic protector sheets, labelled and ready to pull out and use on a project or to ink and heat emboss etc.

I love flipping through it as well. When I'm not sure of what sentiment to use that helps and seems to point me in the right direction BIG GRIN

Jan 19 -Shamrock - ECD Good Luck

Now besides this being a good St Patrick's day card... it might also be used to send to a friend who will be meeting the in-laws... ROFL Just kidding. BIG GRIN.

I am also using one of the newest rubber stamps sets from Quietfire Design Christmas Sweet and Sassy 6pce set

I die cut the reindeer, mittens and Ho Ho Ho from white textured cardstock. Used a marker to color the details for the mittens. Adhered the various designs to the green, blue or red cardstock leaving part of the flourish above the tag edge to thread my ribbon. Used a large corner rounder punch and rounded the corners.

Used my Tim Stampin Platform and stamped the words using Versamark (it was juicier than my white stamp pad...) and embossing with white embossing powder.

Adhered the cream toned narrow ribbon to the back of the tag adding a punched heart  to hide the ends.

I've recently seen easel cards by Crafter's Companion that look fantastic made with their new die sets.  I new I had to try making one with the dies I have on hand... I don't even want to think about what those Crafter's Companion die sets are going to cost...BIG GRIN.

MC June/15 - Shimmer Thanks - My Friend

I just got some new toys... BIG GRIN, the bird stamp on the inside by Penny Black, love it and the embossing folder on the front by Ultimate Crafts - Allura Collection "Nine of Diamonds".

And I finally decided to play with my Shimmer Sheetz...

I side folded my white card (5"w x 7"h). Adhered a piece of pale pink textured cardstock edge to edge.

Inked up my embossing folder with Distress pad "Fossilized Amber", placed my white cardstock on the uninked side and then closed the folder and ran through my machine. Removed from folder and hit the high points with "Spun Sugar" Used a Prismacolor Brush Marker in a deep pink to draw my faux stitching. Trimmed it down and adhered to a bright blue textured cardstock. Used my layering ruler set to trim the border down to 1/16", tied some Sari ribbon "Sunrise" into a bow, which is a nice variegated ribbon, then adhered these two layers to the pink front.

Adhered some Sookwang tape to the back of a piece of pink Shimmer Sheetz and die cut the "Thanks". Must admit, I did have to help it a bit with my x-acto knife even using the newest Sizzix Precision Base metal plate. (ps I have the negative piece for another card...I also taped the little drop out pieces to the negative piece not to loose them...)

Added some Peel Offs flowers on the upper corners. Colored the negative of those flowers using a deep pink Spectrum Noir alcohol pen. Added some deep pink rhinestones on the lower corners.

On the inside, stamped the sentiment text (Quietfire Design) using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed. 

Stamped the bird on branch (Penny Black "The Sweetest Sound") using Distress mini pads (on the bird: "Mustard Yellow", "Evergreen Bough", "Salty Ocean", "Black Soot", Tree branch: "Vintage Photo", "Picked Raspberry" & "Mowed Lawn".

Then sponged some blue using a dirty sponge around the edges.

MC June/15 - Squares Large - Hello - HB

As I mentioned the other day when I played with my Dylusions "Squares Large" stencil, that I had made a smaller sized one 5 x 7"... and so made the front with it... (you can see previous card HERE) This one I also clear embossed the squares a couple times, then offset the stencil and sponged with "Gathered Twigs", wiping off the excess with a damp paper towel which left some nice little streaks...

Punches, die cuts and trims. 

I'm using one of the newest dies from Suzanne "Hello", sentiment stamp from a companion stamp "We Cannot Tell..." 2 pce set, and the birthday greeting from "Happy Family Days" a 5 pce set.

DT May/15 - Color Burst Flowers - Hello - Those Who Find - BD Wishes

My turn today on the Quietfire Creations blog with a Color Burst from Ken Oliver. As I mentioned a while back, I got my Color Burst. Very nice. They work as well as the Brusho's, but are easier to use since they already come in a nozzle type dispenser... There are only 6 colors at this time, so it's pretty hard to make a mistake with them. I like that Brusho's have 24 colors...


I'm using the newest "Hello" die on the outside a quote stamp and sentiment stamp on the inside from Quietfire Design as well as an eCut "Happy Birthday" from Suzanne available on the Silhouette onLine store.

MC Apr/15 - CAS Hello Sunshine - HB

There are a couple challenges that instigated this card... one using the colors yellow, white and black and another a CAS card.

And I recently saw a card (and of course I can't find the link now. sheesh) but the card had a die cut and then layered onto several pieces of black cardstock, which I though was neat.

I love the new dies from Suzanne and this time I'm using "Hello".

So I scored and folded my main white card (5"w x 7"h). Die cut the hellow on a piece of white Ruche textured cardstock, sliced the negative at about the half way point and set aside.

Die cut the word again, from white cardstock and then 3 layers of black cardstock, each of these had a piece of Sookwang tape attached prior die cutting. Then adhered/stacked all 4 layers.

Die cut the daisy sprig from white cardstock with Sookwang tape. Removed the release paper from the inner parts of the petals and sprinkled with Stickles dry fine glitter "Yellow". Then removed the centers and stem release paper and sprinkled with Glitter Ritz micro fine glitter "Black".  Removed all the rest of the release paper and sprinkled with "white".

Cut another piece of Ruche cardstock and adhered to front. 

Positioned the first piece of Ruche cardstock to position my daisy sprig and adhered. Then adhered the Ruche, then the word "Hello" into the original openings from die cutting.


Stamped the word "Sunshine" ("Always Be My Friend" 3 pce set) using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed. (ps I first masked off the rest of the sentiment prior inking, removed the mask and then stamped).

Added pieces of a bright yellow narrow ribbon to either side of the word and then topped it with white flower ribbon. Added the white half pearls in each corner.

On the inside, masked of the front flap and stamped the large daisy head (Stampendous "Jumbo Daisy") using Distress mini pads "Mustard Yellow" all over and then hitting the edges of the center seed pod with black, misting with water and stamping. Inked up the stem portion in the same manner. Used a damp paint brush to move the color around.

Stamped the quote with the Versafine black and clear embossed. Stamped the "Happy Birthday" ("Happy Birthday Plain and Simple" 7 pce set) using the yellow and black Distress pads and clear embossing.

MC Apr/15 - Side Easel - Believe Die - When You Get

And another take on the split front theme... this time added a see through glitter layer and using the ""Believe"" die from Suzanne - and it was die cut from a reject background - I'm using my stash... but it's still not going down. Sigh!!

Added butterflies and dragonflies and some little flowers - all from my stash... I love maidenhair ferns. Actually I love most ferns, used to grow a whole pile of them... but now I have to make do with stamp and stencil images - no energy to take care of ferns, they don't do well with my neglect...
