3D Liner - Joy - Choose Joy

size: 4.5"w x 7.5"h
On Canson Mixed Media paper lined the JOY letters using a new product to me... Stamperi Contour Black - needle nose tube. When dry adhered my paper to heavy cardstock so it wouldn't warp. Loaded the letters with water and dropped in Kuretake w/c #30 Cad Red, #43 Cad Yellow, #51 Light Green & #62 Turquoise Blue.
Wrote out the rest of the text with a Staedtler Calligraph Black 2.0 broad edge tip.
words: Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. Henri Houwen

RW_ Uncial Class - Sept 27 & 28, 2025

Took an Uncial class (Sept 27 & 28, 2025) with Renate Worthington thru our Guild and enjoyed it thoroughly.
We did lots of techniques.

PS: as you can see from the bottom right image the word is a little weird... It's my inevitable mistake... I put the "R' in front of the "T" but continued with my word and still laugh...

Lyrics - Do It Now

I came across this song the other day on Facebook and can't remember ever really hearing it... so looked it up. It seems (after digging) it was written by Paul McCartney in around 2012. Anyway I was inspired to write it out. It's lengthy and I don't usually do lengthy stuff...
size: 8" w x 12" h
Done on Edge Mixed Media Sketchbook paper using broad edge nibs (Speedball C-5 and Brause 1.5) and Bister inks mahogany (small text) and black (large text) in Uncial style.

words:
we need to wake up
we need to wise up
we need to open up our eyes
Refrain:
and do it
NOW! NOW! NOW!
we need to build a better future
and we need to start right now
we're on a planet
that has a problem
we've got to solve it, get involved
Refrain:
we have to build a future
make it greener
make it cleaner
make it last, make it fast
Refrain:
we need to build a better future
and we need to start right now
no point in waiting or hesitating
we must get wise, take no more lies

Funky Uncial, Yes, No

I'm taking a 2 day class with Barb Fuller (a BVCG Guild Member) in Uncials. It's one of my favorite hands... but does take up a lot of room especially since I don't like using small nibs...
On Canson Pro Marker paper.
The Uncial word was written with a 3.8 and a 2.4 empty Parallel pen using a crazy mix of Ecoline ink I had in a jar (the brownish color) and a reddish. Graphite shadowing.
The Yes and No  were also done with some crazy mixes... shadowed and doodled with a white or gold gel pen.

Uncial _ Yes 1 & Yes 2

I'm taking a 2 day class with Barb Fuller (a BVCG Guild Member) in Uncials. It's one of my favorite hands... but does take up a lot of room especially since I don't like using small nibs...

On Canson Pro Marker paper I used a Simply Simons #10 chisel brush (for both "Yes's") - which is a touch smaller than 1/2" and loaded it with water - one letter at a time. Dropped in Ecoline inks into the wetness. Blotted it a bit so it would dry faster...

Top Yes: shadowed on the right side with a Caran c'Ache B pencil and paper stump. Outlined on the left side with a medium toned blue Juice Up pen.

Bottom Yes: wrote the text with a black Juice Up pen and used a yellow colored pencil to shade around the words.
words: YES is a good word

Celtic Knot Frame - Always Remember

Celtic Knot Frame - Always Remember. So I'm still practicing my knotwork... Not quite consistent enough, but with practice I hope I'll get all my lines the same thickness and the negative holes the same size... One day

The image above is progression of each element to see which I like the best.  The first is just too plain for me. I like the way the black shadow makes it stand out. It's hard to see the effect of the gray shadow, but I like that detail as well and can't have anything withoyt a touch of color...

Scribbled Lives 2023 - Wk 8 - Celtic - Cairdeas In Border- Shadowed

Scribbled Lives 2023 - Wk 8 - Celtic - Cairdeas In Border- Shadowed. Yesterday I created one of these borders that didn't quite turn out right... I pondered the problem and realized I had even number of patterns on each side... should have been one odd and one even. So this one is with the right number of patterns... But I'm still not happy since my line thickness is not even - sigh!! but I'm content for the moment and like the overall look.

PS the word means "friendship".

Celtic Border - Slainte

My Guild BVCG had Nancy Hays Hills trying to teach us Celtic Knotwork... She made it look so easy and even with all her grid patterns that she kindly gave us I still made a mistake somewhere... I think on the bottom section. When I try running a continuous line through the pattern, it gets blocked at one point. Beats me where I went wrong...
